Happy Hanukkah! Merry Christmas! S Novym Godom! (really, you haven't been missing very much from this end)

Haven't been here in a while. Not much to say, really. Zio's paper is finally accepted for publication. My paper seems worlds away from being submitted, even though I need it to get a job. I futilely send out applications for jobs, in spite of my sparse publication record, knowing I will not be called for interviews without another paper. Androosh is growing like a weed. Life keeps hurdling forward. Blah, blerch, bleh....

The holidays are here. On Christmas day we escape.

Bahn mi. Boba tea. Red wine. Frantic packing.
Boston here we come.

Ded Moroz has a proper beard this year. I am ready.

moar mutterings

Z: "What will we do with that beef one?"

Me: 'We'll raise her until adulthood, then hopefully she'll still like us enough to be friends."

september mental ramblings

-Back to portland-fall-weather-suck.

-Kiddo is growing and singing. A lot.

-Work stress continues to intensify.

-Extended family health issues continue to be a great concern on both sides.

-Have a feeling we may be living in the same state next year.

-My cat's coughing problem seems to have resolved.

-I gave my daughter a horrible hair cut this evening. Hopefully she'll let me "repair" it in the morning.

-Bought a cute, cheap robe at Ross. Suddenly realized it's covered in hello kitty cat heads on ice cream cones. Welcome to Andryushka's future therapy seasons.

imagine this...all over a grown woman's robe

-My grandma had a great birthday celebration today, and I'm very happy about it.

-I wish I could sleep for a week straight.

the first hot weekend this summer - an update from the field

Today's trip to Sauvie Island was rudely interrupted by our normally reliable Subaru dying in the middle of I5 of a sudden cardiac arrest. Zio is waiting by the road for a tow truck, while Andrea and I wander back toward our house. Zio found a blackberry bush near the body of our vehicle. Meanwhile Andrea and I packed provisions of crackers, oranges and prunes for the long trip home.

(Edit) It was a very long trip home with melty popsicles and a goosegg on Androosh's head from slipping near the water fountain. And we think our alternator's gone out. Still, I'm happy that it got hot enough to finally turn on the fans in our house this evening instead of wearing my my fuzzy robe.

(Edit Edit) It was the alternator + a killed battery from being driven with a dead alternator. A trip to the mechanic and eight hundred bucks later Jimmy (the car) is home safe and sound.
