autumn good stuff and lessons in anatomy

Andrea stomped through the crunchy leaves yesterday evening.

She laughed and yelled "cunchee leeeeeves!!!!"

Mama laughed too.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Andrea asked me about a week ago what her lady parts are called.

A very reasonable question with a myriad of answers, the social complexities of which she is thankfully too young to understand.

I hadn't thought about what my answer would be. It just came out.

"Vulva"

I have good reasons for choosing this answer. I hate using euphemisms like "hoo-hoo" and "nooh-nooh" and "wee-wee". And "vagina" is not technically accurate. Vulva is the latin-derived english term for female external genitalia.

But I don't like the word. It sounds guttural. It's clinical and cold. It reminds people of uncomfortable moments in high school health class.

Of course, since Andrea has none of these pre-conceived hang-ups, she's very happy pointing and calling it by name.

But she says "voovah", which sounds much more adorable.

Just as long as she doesn't confuse it with a "Volvo."
